Mr Jon Conroy BSc, MBChB, FRCS (Eng), FRCS (Tr & Orth), MSc

Mr Jon Conroy currently holds a substantive Consultant Orthopaedic post at Harrogate District Hospital and is on the General Medical Council Specialist Register.

He commenced undergraduate medical training in 1989 at St Andrews University, gaining a BSc in Medical Science in 1992. Clinical training was at Manchester University where he qualified as a Medical Doctor, MB. ChB in 1995.

Postgraduate surgical training consisted of Anatomy, General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Transplant Surgery, Cardiac Surgery and Vascular Surgery. This was in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals passing his surgical exams in 1999.

In 2000 he commenced Higher Surgical Training working in Hull, Scarborough, York, Harrogate and Leeds. The Specialist Orthopaedic and Trauma exam, FRCS (Tr & Orth) was passed in 2004.

During Higher Surgical Training he was awarded a Masters Degree with Distinction from Leeds University for his work on bone cements used in hip and knee replacements.

A Fellowship year was spent working for Professor Ross Crawford and Dr Hugh English in Brisbane Australia. Experience was gained in new techniques of hip and knee surgery. Specifically, computer navigated hip and knee surgery, revision surgery, hip resurfacing, hip arthroscopy and knee arthroscopy.

Mr Conroy's work has been published in several medical journals. He has presented research locally, nationally and internationally. He won the GlaxoSmithKleine Orthopaedic Essay Prize in 2005 and the John Fitton Prize for Orthopaedic Specialist Registrars in 2006.

Committee experience has included the British Orthopaedic Trainees Association, Junior Doctors Committee of the British Medical Association and Association of Surgeons in Training.

Mr Conroy worked on the Department of Health's document 'The Musculoskeletal Services Framework' and has sat on the Royal College of Surgeons 'Inspection Review Group'
